What’s Coming Next on the Blog: Truffles, Autumn Leaf Peeping Roadtrips, and a Japan Rail Pass Calculator

Last Updated on September 30, 2025 by Charlotte

After a whirlwind of alpine hikes, glacier picnics, and espresso-fueled mornings in Chamonix, we’re officially wrapping up the mountain chapter of our summer. Over the past three months, the blog’s been full of trail guides, lift passes, and reflections on elevation gain versus gelato intake, but now it’s time to shift gears. In the coming weeks, you’ll start to see a different side of our travels unfold, one that smells like truffles, crunches with autumn leaves, and ends with rosé in the Alsace. Plus, there’s a new tool in the works that travelers to Japan will want to keep an eye on.

Here’s a little preview of what’s coming next.

First Stop: Truffle Hunting in Turin

From Chamonix, we headed south across the border into Italy, straight into the heart of truffle country. Turin surprised us in all the best ways: elegant piazzas, ornate cafés, wildly underrated museums, and, yes, white truffle everything. We joined a truffle expedition in the countryside with a third-generation truffle-hunting family, and the most adorable truffle-hunting hound named Theo. It was fantastic, and the kind of experience that somehow manages to feel both fancy and down-to-earth, one of my most favorite activities that I’ve ever done in Italy. I’ll be sharing a full guide soon, so stay tuned!

Then: Autumn on the East Coast

After Italy, the blog will be hopping the Atlantic for a change of pace and a change of temperature. Think crunchy leaves, cozy sweaters, and the scent of fresh apple cider donuts drifting out of roadside farm stands. Our East Coast stretch included a mix of city time and classic autumn drives, from historic neighborhoods to leaf-peeping detours. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing how to visit historic covered bridges, pumpkin patches, and easy walks to scenic overlooks, all within two hours of Philadelphia. Whether you’re a local looking for a fall day trip or planning a longer seasonal road trip, there’ll be plenty of low-effort, high-reward stops to explore.

After That: Exploring the Alsace

Before we head to blog posts sharing the warmth and glamour of the South of France, we’re taking a detour into one of the most charming regions of Europe: Alsace. This stretch of our travels was all about cobbled lanes, vineyard hikes, and storybook towns that look like they were drawn by hand.

We hired a car, followed the Alsace wine route, and made stops in Colmar, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, and my personal favorite, Eguisheim.

Finally: What I’m Building Behind the Scenes (JR Pass Comparison Calculator Tool)

While the blog rolls out its next wave of Europe content, I’m also diving into something new: a JR Pass calculator for Japan!

After the success of the Swiss Pass comparison tool, it felt like the right time to tackle the often confusing, and now more expensive, Japan Rail Pass landscape.

This calculator will help you:

  • Compare the national JR Pass vs the regional passes
  • Estimate whether a pass is worth it for your itinerary
  • Avoid the dreaded “I could’ve just bought individual tickets” regret

If you’re planning a Japan trip this fall or winter, stay tuned. I’ll be sharing a full guide once the calculator is live.

Until Then…

Thanks for sticking with us through the Alps, and we hop that you look forward to coming along to read about the truffle forests, the cider stands, and the cobbled streets of Alsace villages. This next batch of posts will be a little bit slower, a little bit cozier, and (hopefully) just as full of useful tips and honest reflections. If you’re planning a fall trip to Europe or the U.S., or just want to live vicariously through us with a hot cup of mulled cider in hand, there’s lots coming your way!

Until then, you can find us editing photos, polishing up the JR Pass calculator, and trying to remember which dreamy French town had the best cheese.

Happy travels,
–Charlotte
