An Azalea Woodland Walk at Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens
Last Updated on December 2, 2025 by Charlotte
In April, Pennsylvania’s rolling hills and woodlands are alight with washes of pink and red azaleas. At Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens in Devon, Pennsylvania, walking paths meander between towering tulip trees and a spectacular collection of rhododendrons and azaleas. Come along with us on a photo journal of the gardens, from a rainy day walk through the woods.

A Photo Journey Through Jenkin’s Arboretum
Here at Jenkins, April showers orchestrate a whimsical symphony of blossoms in the woodland. The sky is overcast with light rain, and the paths are empty of sounds except for the twittering of birds and the light tread of our footsteps.
High above in the tree canopy, baby leaf buds erupt in bright shades of green, ready to start anew after winter’s slumber.
Thoughtfully placed benches throughout the arboretum provide a peaceful place among the petals to sit and admire the scenery.
Violet, fuchsia, and delicate white: azaleas and rhododendrons awaken in a dazzling display of color.
A grassy green carpet unfurls toward the pond, where turtles and frogs lazily bask in the windows of sunlight that escape through the clouds.
A turtle and frog rest on a half-sunken log in the pond, the forest reflected in the water’s surface.
The softness of dainty pink petals is contrasted by the textured tendrils of new ferns.
Across the forest floor, Great White Trillium bloom as pure as freshly fallen snow, in whorl of three leaves.

Was It Worth The Trip?
Completely worth it! I’ve made several return trips during the azalea season and in late summer. While this is one of the smaller arboretums in the greater Philadelphia area, its free admission and peaceful atmosphere give it a special charm in comparison to some of the larger more highly trafficked gardens.
Lovely pictures, Char! It looks like a magical spot. I will definitely make a trip there. Thank you!
I haven’t been there in many years – I’ll put it on the list (for spring). Thanks Char!
