Aloha!

I’m Charlotte

Iโ€™m a part-time traveler with a dream to see the world.

Iโ€™m Charlotteโ€”a researcher by trade, and an adventurer at heart. I live in Hawaii with my Travel Buddy turned Husband, where I work a full-time job I care about, surrounded by a community I love.ย  But I also have a deep, almost restless desire to experience this world as fully as I can. Not someday, but now.ย

Whether youโ€™re dreaming of hiking in the Alps, diving with manta rays, exploring ancient ruins, or just finding the one boutique hotel that will make your trip feel special, Iโ€™m here to help. My goal is to help curious, time-strapped travelers like you make the absolute most of their trips, and travel with confidence, without burning out, scrolling endlessly, or falling into tourist traps.

Like many people, I only have a few weeks of vacation a year. So when I travel, I travel intentionally. To help you plan your trips, I develop guides and interactive tools like side-by-side rail pass calculators, and custom maps to make the most of your time and money.ย Because, like me, you donโ€™t need to quit your job to live an extraordinary life!

Whether you’re seeking inspiration for your next adventure, practical hiking guides, or insider travel tips, you’re in the right place. Char Across the World is dedicated to empowering you to dream big and travel with confidence.

Behind the blog

How it all started

My love of travel started on a three-day trip to Floridaโ€™s Everglades when I was just a child. I remember the excitement of going to the airport, flying on a plane for the first time, and watching the clouds billow by. The wonder from seeing a real-life alligator, and manatees gently floating by in canals. Growing up, I always felt like I wanted to live a thousand different lives. I loved reading stories, slipping in and out of other peopleโ€™s shoes, and exploring faraway places in my imagination.

I travel to chase that feeling, that spark and childlike wonder of places fundamentally different from where I came, and to feel the common things that people share across borders and cultures. My experiences traveling have shown me the kindness of strangers, multiple ways to communicate, and most of all that I am capable. The life I want is out there, and it is up to me, and me alone, to go get it.

The name Char Across the World echoes the phrase “far across the world,” reflecting my journey to distant places and the desire to bring those experiences closer to you. Through this blog, I aim to bridge the gap between far-off destinations and your travel aspirations, providing insights that make the world feel a little smaller and more accessible.

In 2013, I packed my life into two black duffle bags and left behind the only life I had ever known to move 7,814.25 km away. At university in Hawaiโ€™i, I developed an affection for hiking and all things ocean. Time passed, I fell in love, and many years later, I am happy to now call my island home. Living on a rock in the middle of the Pacific opened doors to visit Asia first as a student budget traveler. Since then, I have visited sixteen countries: Iโ€™ve swam with manta rays in Indonesia, summited mountain peaks in Switzerland, and more.

FAQ

Because I live in Hawaii, I love to visit places that are different than my local geography. Think of places with big mountains, and wide open landscapes.

Because I work a full time job, I try to make the most of the 10-20 days of time off that I receive each year. As a result, most of my trips are fast paced, and planned to minimize travel time.

I started this blog as a way to share my trip reports and itineraries with my family and friends. I tend to pour a lot of time into researching my trips and drafting itineraries. I aim for this blog to serve as a high quality repository of knowledge.

While I appreciate living in such a beautiful place, living in Hawaii is not like being on a permanent vacation. The cost of living in Hawaii is extremely high, with obscenely expensive energy, food, and housing costs.

I collaborate with brands I genuinely love to create content and tools that support thoughtful, meaningful travel. Work with me โ†’
